Once upon a time, there was a lady named Mrs. Damoff. Mrs. Damoff’s little girl, Grace, was Katie’s best friend growing up. Katie was always over at the Damoff’s after school and on the weekends, having sleep-overs. Mrs. Damoff made the best chocolate chip cookies ever and kept them in an antique crock on her counter.
(Mrs. Damoff was nice enough to take a picture of her famous cookie crock and send it to me!)
*ahem, continuing...*
Sometimes, Katie couldn’t even have dinner because she would eat too many of these delicious cookies. The End.
Ok ok, sorry. I had to tell the story! But these really are the best cookies ever. I’ve had them since I was literally 9 years old and I haven’t touched the recipe. I refuse to try and improve upon it in any way. So make them exactly like I say, and like Mrs. Damoff still makes them, and you’ll have a new addiction.
The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies
Makes about 24 cookies.
You can add anything you like! Mrs. Damoff added white and semi-sweet chocolate chips so that’s what I add, but you can add walnuts or peanut butter chips.
1 cup Crisco
¾ cup granulated sugar
¾ cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 ¼ cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup white chocolate chips
Cream together the Crisco and the sugars until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, and the vanilla.
Meanwhile, sift together the flour, baking soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture a little at a time, lightly beating after each addition. Add chips and stir to combine.
Spoon out on a dry cookie sheet and bake at 350˚ for about 10 minutes until lightly golden brown. (If you get them out a little pale, they will be chewier. If you like yours crunchy, leave in for another 5 minutes)
They are the best right out of the oven! All warm and chewy and gooey… Oh my.
